Fitness Classes

Riviera Sports Center & Health Club offers more than 60 classes a week, so there has to be a workout that will interest you and a time when you can be there. The classes vary from cardio blasts, cycling, yoga, Zumba, Pilates, strength-training, and aqua aerobics.

Here are some of the most popular classes offered at Riviera Sports Center & Health Club:

Dance Party – Exercise can be monotonous, so if you want to feel like you are at a party and not at the gym, this workout is for you. Don’t worry you do not need a dance degree to participate. Join this class to reduce fat, strengthen your core, and increase your energy as you move your body to the sounds of salsa, mambo, retro and world beat.

Group Kick – Wanna fight? This electric fusion class features a mixture of martial arts and boxing movements. The pace works your cardio, and the moves help define and shape your muscles. It is a win-win class for you.

Healthy Moves – If you need a low low-intensity exercise class, Healthy Moves is a good class to attend. The class begins with a mild cardiovascular session, followed by low-intensity strengthening exercises.

Sculpt – Ready to sculpt your body? If you are looking to shape and tone your body without adding bulk, this workout will fill the bill. The class uses light weights to help you increase your flexibility and give you a cardiovascular exercise at the same time.

Turbo Kick – This is a class that is a real workout, and it is intense. It is a cardiovascular challenge that is a combination of kickboxing moves, as well as dance moves choreographed to music that will inspire you to win.

Fitness Water Classes

Would you rather workout in water instead of on land? Riviera Sports Center & Health Club offers some water classes throughout the day. Our pools are heated to about 84 degrees which is a comfortable setting for a swim. You can swim laps or attend one of the water classes.

COVID-19 Update

June 18, 2020

Riviera Country Club Members:

Together, we are facing a truly unprecedented situation. The global coronavirus pandemic is affecting our way of life for all of our families, friends and businesses, particularly in the state of Illinois. First and foremost, our hearts go out to anyone who's been impacted by the virus, either directly or indirectly. Our thoughts are especially with those who are sick, to whom we extend our heartfelt wishes for a full recovery.

We receive inquiries daily from members asking, “When is the Club going to re-open?” Unfortunately, there is no simple answer to that question as it is entirely up to the governor to give us that approval. The state has recently moved to Phase 3 of its plan, which on the surface includes the opening of “Personal Care Services and Health Clubs” however, it only allows Health and Fitness Clubs to provide outdoor classes for up to 10 participants and one-on-one personal training indoors with IDPH approved safety guidance. This in no way, by any stretch of the imagination, constitutes the opening of Gyms and Health Clubs.

Please keep in mind that we are a full service all-inclusive club with many members and could not reopen in piecemeal form. Most members have specific aspects of the club for which they have become members and use it: Some for tennis; others for exercise classes; and still others for the pool or spa or something else. If any of these aspects cannot be available, then the club does not serve a purpose for those members. Therefore, the entire club will need to be open and available to our members when we open our doors again.

To that end, it looks like the governor’s plan would need to move to Phase 5 for Health Clubs and Spas to fully re-open. The governor’s plan would move to Phase 5 when either a vaccine is developed to prevent the spread of the virus, a treatment option is readily available that ensures health care capacity is no longer a concern, or there are no new cases over a sustained period.

We hope to have additional information in the near future as we move through these unprecedented times. In the meantime, please stay healthy.

Sincerely,

Dan O’Donnell
